Positive behaviour support Noosa: frequently asked questions
Who provides NDIS positive behaviour support in Noosa?
Capability Support Services is a registered NDIS provider delivering positive behaviour support across Noosa and the wider Sunshine Coast. Our practitioners work with participants, families and support teams in homes, schools and community settings, with telehealth for reviews and remote areas.
Do you visit Noosa Heads, Tewantin and the Noosa hinterland?
Yes. We visit Noosa Heads, Noosa Junction, Noosaville, Sunshine Beach, Sunrise Beach, Tewantin, Peregian Beach, Marcus Beach, Castaways Beach, Cooroibah, Boreen Point, Cooroy, Pomona, Cooran and Eumundi. Where travel is a barrier, for example in hinterland areas, we offer telehealth for reviews and coaching.
Can you help someone returning home from hospital?
Yes. We can work with the hospital team and family before discharge, review what has changed, and prepare a behaviour support plan so supports at home are ready on day one. Ask your support coordinator to include us in discharge planning.
Do you support children, teenagers and young adults?
Yes. We work with children, teenagers and young adults alongside their families, carers and schools. Plans focus on building skills and independence, and the young person's voice is part of every decision about their own support.
Is positive behaviour support funded by the NDIS?
Yes. Positive behaviour support is usually funded from the Improved Relationships budget in your NDIS plan, listed as Specialist Behaviour Support. It can be used if your plan is self-managed, plan-managed or NDIA-managed, as we are a registered NDIS provider (registration 4-JFXPAFQ).
What is a functional behaviour assessment and a behaviour support plan?
A functional behaviour assessment is how we work out the possible purpose of a behaviour and the factors that influence it. A behaviour support plan is an individualised plan with practical strategies, developed with the person and their supports, and updated as needs change.
How long does a behaviour support plan take?
Where restrictive practices are used, NDIS rules require an interim behaviour support plan within 1 month and a comprehensive plan within 6 months. Without restrictive practices, most comprehensive plans are completed within 6 to 12 weeks, depending on how often we can observe and meet with your support team.
What does an Advanced Behaviour Support Practitioner mean?
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission assesses behaviour support practitioners at four levels: Core, Proficient, Advanced and Specialist. An Advanced practitioner is approved to support people with more complex needs, including plans that involve restrictive practices.
Do I need a referral for behaviour support?
No GP referral is needed. Participants, families, support coordinators, plan managers and SIL providers can refer directly using our online referral form or by calling 1800 299 399. You just need behaviour support funding in the NDIS plan.
