Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) - Sunshine Coast

At Capability Support Services, we take a human-rights-led, person-centred approach to Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). Grounded in the Capable Environments framework, our registered NDIS practitioners work alongside participants, families, and support teams across the Sunshine Coast to understand the “why” behind behaviours of concern, safely reduce or eliminate restrictive practices, and build long-term quality of life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Capability Support Services is a registered NDIS provider, registration number 4 JFXPAFQ, delivering Positive Behaviour Support across the Sunshine Coast from Caloundra to Noosa and inland to Nambour and Maleny. Sunshine Coast practitioner Linda is assessed at Advanced level and visits participants at home, at school and in the community.

Waitlists across the region can be long because the Sunshine Coast population has grown faster than local allied health services. Capability Support Services currently has capacity for new referrals and can usually complete intake within a few business days.

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission recognises four practitioner levels: Core, Proficient, Advanced and Specialist. An Advanced practitioner is assessed as suitable to work with complex referrals, including participants with multiple restrictive practices, layered clinical presentations and high levels of risk.

A Functional Behaviour Assessment helps us understand the possible purpose or
function of a behaviour and the factors influencing it. We consider what happens
before, during and after the behaviour, as well as communication, sensory needs, health, environment, relationships, routines and other relevant factors.

This information helps us develop supports based on understanding rather than
assumptions.

A Behaviour Support Plan is an individualised plan that provides practical strategies for
supporting the participant. It may include proactive strategies, communication
supports, skill development, environmental changes and guidance about how others
can respond safely and consistently.

The plan is developed collaboratively and should evolve as the person's needs,
circumstances and goals change.

Intake is usually completed within a few business days of receiving a referral. Where there is immediate risk or a restrictive practice already in use, an interim behaviour support plan can be developed and lodged with the NDIS Commission ahead of the full assessment.
