NDIS Positive Behaviour Support in Maroochydore, and Surrounding areas
NDIS-Registered Positive Behaviour Support with Immediate Capacity
Our Positive Behaviour Support in Maroochydore is designed to promote positive change, enhance quality of life, and empower individuals to achieve their goals with dignity and respect. Because behavior, movement, and daily independence are deeply connected, our PBS practitioners collaborate directly with our in-house Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams. By aligning behavioural strategies with physical and functional capacity building, we ensure participants don’t have to juggle fragmented providers—delivering practical, consistent support across home, school, and community.

What is positive behaviour support?
Positive behaviour support (PBS) is an evidence-based, person-centred approach that works out why behaviours of concern happen and builds skills, routines and environments that improve quality of life and reduce the need for restrictive practices.
Under the NDIS, PBS is delivered by registered behaviour support practitioners and regulated by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Our approach is human-rights-led and built on the Capable Environments framework.

Where restrictive practices are used, an interim plan is developed within 1 month to keep everyone safe while the assessment continues.
Within 1 month - 4

A full plan within 6 months where restrictive practices are used, with proactive strategies, skill-building and steps to reduce restrictive practices.

Positive behaviour support Maroochydore: frequently asked questions
Who provides NDIS positive behaviour support in Maroochydore?
Capability Support Services is a registered NDIS provider (registration 4-JFXPAFQ) delivering positive behaviour support in Maroochydore 4558 and the surrounding Sunshine Coast suburbs. Our behaviour support practitioners visit homes, schools, day programs and SIL houses, and use telehealth for reviews.
Is there a waitlist for behaviour support in Maroochydore?
Waitlists across the Sunshine Coast can be long because demand has grown faster than local allied health services. We currently have capacity for new referrals in Maroochydore and can usually complete intake within a few business days of receiving a referral.
How is positive behaviour support funded by the NDIS?
Positive behaviour support is usually funded from the Capacity Building – Improved Relationships budget in an NDIS plan, under Specialist Behaviour Support. We charge in line with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, and our services can be used whether the plan is self-managed, plan-managed or NDIA-managed.
What happens in a functional behaviour assessment?
A functional behaviour assessment looks at what a behaviour communicates and what triggers or maintains it. We talk with the person and their supporters, observe them in everyday settings, and collect data over time. The findings shape the strategies in the behaviour support plan.
What are restrictive practices?
Restrictive practices are actions that restrict a person's rights or freedom of movement. The five regulated restrictive practices under the NDIS are seclusion, chemical restraint, mechanical restraint, physical restraint and environmental restraint. A behaviour support plan aims to reduce and, where possible, eliminate their use.
How long does a behaviour support plan take, and how often is it reviewed?
Where restrictive practices are used, NDIS rules require an interim behaviour support plan within 1 month and a comprehensive plan within 6 months. Plans are reviewed at least every 12 months, or sooner if the person's needs or circumstances change.
What does an Advanced Behaviour Support Practitioner mean?
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission recognises four levels of behaviour support practitioner: Core, Proficient, Advanced and Specialist. An Advanced practitioner is suited to more complex referrals, including plans that involve restrictive practices.
Can you see someone at home, at school or in SIL in Maroochydore?
Yes. We deliver behaviour support where it is needed most, including the family home, schools, day programs, workplaces, SIL and SDA homes and community settings across Maroochydore and nearby suburbs.
Can positive behaviour support be delivered by telehealth?
Yes. Assessments and training work best face to face, but plan reviews, team meetings and coaching can be delivered by telehealth. This helps families in busy schedules and participants in harder-to-reach areas.
Do I need a referral for behaviour support in Maroochydore?
No GP referral is needed. Participants, families, support coordinators, plan managers, SIL providers and hospital teams can refer directly through our online referral form or by calling 1800 299 399. The NDIS plan needs to include behaviour support funding.
